Family Resource Center for Northeast Louisiana

The Family Resource Center for Northeast Louisiana serves Northeast Louisiana (Region 9) and Jackson and Bienville parishes. Although our primary purpose is to provide parent education, visit coaching and a safe environment for families and children receiving services through DCFS’ Child Protective Services, our ultimate goal is to provide a comprehensive parenting center that provides services for all parents in Northeast Louisiana.

Nurturing Parenting (16 weeks) Starting each month, you can join a Nurturing Parenting group. This comprehensive 16-week program is designed for families referred for parenting education by social services agencies and meets the requirement for DCFS prevention/treatment. Registration required, call 318-398-4271 for more information. Child care provided.

Family Life Skills (one-hour) These one-hour, high-interest courses are designed to help you create a safe, healthy and financially stable home for your family. Topics include Financial Management, Child Development, Healthy Relationships, Time Management and Communication.  Drop ins are welcome.

Triple P Parenting (3 weeks) The Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) is offered the first three Thursdays of each month. This short course is more like a toolbox of ideas than a how-to of parenting. You choose the strategies you need; you choose the way you want to use them—you have the power to raise happy, confident kids.  Registration required, call 318-398-4271 for more information. Child care provided.

Visit Coaching Families receiving services through DCFS can be referred by their case manager.  The initial session is a preliminary meeting with the parent in preparation for the actual supervised visits with the children. Sessions are designed to help parents identify their children’s needs and how to meet these needs during visitation time with their child so that when the visits  continue with DCFS they can be satisfying and nurturing to the parent and child. Appointments are scheduled by the FRC parent educator in conjunction with the parent. Initial visit coaching session is always held at the FRC main office.

HOW to REFER families:  DCFS case managers can complete a brief referral form (see attached) and submit to the FRC office via fax, email or delivery. Our staff will follow up with parent and DCFS worker to secure consent forms and additional information for services.  DCFS staff can also call FRC office directly and speak with Ivy Parhms regarding referral at [email protected]
